The Phriendly Chat Network!

Phishy Chat Network::Rules::English

These are the general rules, for rules on specific channels please see the individual channels web site / homepage.

About Phishy

Formed in July 1998 by Grant MacDonald the Phishy Chat Network's aim is to provide a free network of servers to allow people from many different countries and cultures to communicate freely. We do not and will not charge for our services, the servers that make up the network are provided and paid for by the individuals who run them.

Rules

The great thing about Chat is that it consists of people from many different cultures……however – the PROBLEM with Chat is that it consists of people from many different cultures….. To ensure that everyone gets the best possible enjoyment from using our network we have some basic rules of behaviour. Please follow these guidelines.

We do not tolerate:

Harassment Harassment of other users, be it sexual or otherwise. You wouldn’t get away with it in the real world and you won’t get away with it here.
Paedophilia
Advocation of Hate
Terrorism
Illegal Activities
If channels are found to be engaging in any of these activities they will be removed, the owners barred from the network and any information passed on to the relevant authorities.
Persistent Lurking in #PhishPharm This is an Admin channel – not a spectator sport. We keep stats on this kind of thing and if you are found to be lurking on a regular basis we WILL ban you from the Admin channel.
Channel/Server Advertising Ok this really only applies to people who hop into the admin channel – advertise – and hop out again – or people who keep playing popups NOT if you happen to be chatting about another server or channel as part of the conversation. Same applies to join or quitlines for hoppers. Other channels may have additional policies on advertising. Channels may NOT advertise non Phishy servers / networks in topics.
IRC Op / O-Line Begging Ops is given to people who are deemed reliable by the server admin. You don’t get ops by asking. And asking on a regular basis is just gonna piss us off so you’ll NEVER get ops. If we want you we’ll ask. Ask yourself if you are willing to take crap from people without losing your temper, do work in your spare time, commit yourself to caring for your server and the network, and enforcing the above rules without getting paid or appreciated for it – if the answer is no then you don’t wanna be an op on our network!
Trolling

Don’t bait the ops!

Trolling is the delicate art of dragging an innocent op into a compromising position or trying to manipulate ops through barrack room lawyering. We’re simple people folks – this isn’t a court of law and you don’t automatically have a right to come to our network. If we think you were trolling, it doesn’t matter HOW clever you were – you’re OUT!
Flooding/Nuking/Takeovers

DON’T!!!!!!!!!
Don't even think about it....

Flooding

Face it – the days when flooding could crash the channel or the server are OVER so why bother? All it’s gonna get you is get a ban and prove that you're a lamer!

Nuking

Any nuke attempts will be brought to the attention of the server administration and where applicable the ISP of the nuker.

Takeovers

Even if you COULD, most channels are registered so they can be taken it back any time we wanted. Save yourself the bother – find a network with no Chanserv function.
Spamming / Advertising PhishyNet does not condone spamming of newsgroups with advertisements for the network, our code of conduct for network staff specifically prevents this. If you do see any "spam" postings you can be sure that they are not authorised by network admin.

Please report the nick or e-mail address of any offending user to abuse@phishy.net

Services Ignores In common with the official IRC standard we expect users to send messages to services at a frequency of no more than 5 messages within 10 seconds.  Any more than this may inconvenience others users and will result in a temporary "ignore" where services may ignore you for a certain time.  You will be warned of this ignore by services before it places it.  If you continue to send messages to services and are ignored more than a certain number of times you will be added to the permanent ignore list.  If this happens please e-mail abuse@phishy.net to request removal from this permanent ignore list.

If you are placed on the permanent ignore list more then three times then on the fourth time you will not be removed from the list.

Behaviour/Netiquette

Over 18s Channels PhishyNet has no rules prohibiting over 18's channels provided they adhere to the following rules:

1. Over 18's channels must be clearly labelled as such in the topic and the channel name. For channel name guidelines, see the Channels section.
2. Over 18's channels may only carry material that does not contravene network rules regarding illegality
3. Over 18's channels must KEEP IT IN THE CHANNEL!

Channels Profanity may not be used in channel names. Rules regarding profanity in channels are left up to the channel owners - but anything that can be viewed by all users must not contain profanity. Channels that do not adhere to this will be suspended.
Topics Profanity may not be used in channel topics. Neither may inappropriate advertisements such as ads for other Chat networks or hacking information. Oh, and don't try to get around the profanity rule by using stuff like ( for c or Ü for U etc. as these will also not be tollerated.

If profanity IS found in topics then the channel may be suspended without warning.  The channel founder will be informed of this and on confirmation from the channel founder we'll unsuspend the channel, if there is a repeated problem then the channel may be suspended permanently.

Nicknames Profanity may not be used in nicknames, usernames or hostmasks. In addition, there are some other kinds of words that people may find offensive, such as graphic depictions of sex etc. i.e. I_want_to_screw_you_with_my_huge_dick or something along those lines. These are generally left to the channel op's discretion but if you ARE asked to change, please do so or find another channel that finds your nick acceptable. As always, channels are autonomous and don't have to let you in if they don't want to.
"Official" channels No channel may be labelled an "official" channel of the network without the approval of either Bigmac or Xmorpheus by email.

We WANT your company – but not if you’re gonna spoil it for the rest of us.

There ye go – that wasn’t so bad was it!!!!!

What if I decide to ignore all these rules? Well Phishy.Net is OUR network – users and admin. We’ve worked very hard to make it a pleasant place to be for everyone and these rules help to do that. None of the rules we have are in anyway different from most mainstream chat networks. If you choose to ignore these rules, you will initially be kicked and eventually be k-lined. Our rules – you don’t like em go somewhere else. It’s that simple.
Ok – but what if I get banned and I don’t think I did anything wrong ? Can happen and we’re not denying it. First of all, you need to have a log of what happened. If you don’t then there isn’t anything we can do for you – sorry. Once you DO have a log, it’s easy enough. Send an email to one of the server admin – you’ll find them on the ADMIN page – or preferably abuse@phishy.net attaching the log and outlining what the problem is. We’ll take a look at it and get back to you as soon as possible. We will TRY to answer any complaint within 24 hours – but please bear in mind we have lives outside IRC too and may not always be in a position to do that!
